Today’s guest blogger Sarah from Ever After Events shares her tips on how you can achieve that beautiful rustic style, which is just perfect for a Barn wedding. Whether you’re looking for that relaxed, cosy, country vibe or something modern yet rustic and sauve, these tips will ensure your barn wedding gets your guest talking. Keep reading to know more!
What was once a topic that required no thought, the decision of whether your wedding breakfast should be laid upon round or banqueting tables is something we often discuss with couples, particularly when it comes to barn weddings.
Essentially, there is no right or wrong answer, but with each layout bringing its own style of socialising and ability to transform your wedding breakfast space, it’s easy to see why it’s become a talking point.
With the Great Barn at Lillibrooke Manor offering the luxury of a large seated capacity in either table format, we’ve jotted down our recommendations to help with your decision making so, let’s talk tables!
Barn Wedding Venue
Aside from beautiful dresses and stunning flowers, making your day memorable goes beyond the Best Man’s speech and your choice of playlist. Your guests will remember how comfortable they felt while they were seated and how social the setting was – both being a result of your table layout.
Barn Wedding Table Talk
Round tables are the classic wedding set up and you know what they say? Some classics never go out of style.
Rounds are great for socialising and forming friendly groups among guests as they create a feeling of intimacy. Friends and family that were once unknown to one another become engaged in conversation and as a table, no one feels left out.
Naturally, round tables lend themselves to centralised centrepieces, whether they’re low or high in design. You can create statements with elaborate florals or keep things simple with lanterns and rustic charm. You can mix and match with varying heights to deliver colour that fills the room at all levels and create a real showstopper.
While the perception is that round tables are more elegant, and banquets appear much more casual, long tables are a growing wedding trend that isn’t going away anytime soon and it’s easy to see why.
Best Wedding Venue in Berkshire
Heavily influenced by those Pinterest perfect shots, long banquet tables are great for creating a relaxed, family-dining feel. Not only do they look gorgeous when it comes to stylised place settings, but they can also make your table planning easier. Groups of friends and family can be merged along the table without obviously grouping or separating people.
When it comes to centrepiece decor, the options are endless; from unruly foliage garlands to low level blooms, you have the opportunity to create a striking style thread from end-to-end.
Or why not let the food to the talking? Banquet tables are perfect for serving sharing platters rather than a set meal, so why not keep centrepieces to a minimum if you’re planning a feast for the eyes?
So, let’s round things up:
- You can’t beat a classic. Your photos will be timeless.
- Encourages social conversation and friendly groups among guests.
- Creates a great opportunity for you to walk around, say hello and speak with groups of your guests.
- Creates an on-trend, modern wedding design.
- Sets the tone for a family dinner party feeling.
- Easily lends itself to relaxed wedding menus with sharing platters.
Knowing your options can certainly help with your wedding planning, but which ever you choose, rest assured that either option can turn out beautiful and remember – do what works for you!

Maidenhead based wedding photographer, Selen Photography shares her tips on choosing the perfect venue as well as highlights some of the great features of choosing a barn wedding. So, let’s get started!
Being a newly engaged couple is such a wonderful time, filled with love, romance and dreams of the perfect wedding.

Once you have announced your engagement and popped the champagne, the planning can start and one of the first steps is to find a wedding venue and set a date. But with so many options this can be as daunting as it is exciting. Enjoy the challenge; ask yourself, what type of wedding will most represent you as a couple. Romantically rustic to chic and contemporary, intimate affairs to grand receptions, there is no right or wrong, only what is best for you.
Perfect Wedding Venue
I have photographed hundreds of wedding venues in Berkshire and I know just how fortunate I am to be surrounded by so many amazing venues. Here are my top tips for choosing the dream venue for your big day:
- What theme do you want for your day, think of the style and the kind of atmosphere you wish to create. The venue is the canvas on which you can build your theme. Speak to the venue’s wedding planning team and listen to their suggestions that have a wealth of experience.
- The size of the venue is important, how many guests will you invite, is the venue the right size; not too small not too big. How will the venue cater for your guests and the size of your party.
- The date, what time of the year are you planning on getting married? Book as early as possible to ensure you get the date you want. But remember whether summer or not, this is England and you never know, so in case of rain, are there inside areas where group shots can be taken or covered areas outside.
- Attend a wedding fair, most venues will have regular wedding fairs and open days where you can see the venue prepared for a wedding day. This can be very helpful in visualising the day and seeing what you like and don’t like including seating plans. You will be able to meet many of the wedding suppliers in one visit who can provide you with insights and great advice.
- Above all remember to enjoy this special time in your life together, visit the venue as many times as you need to feel comfortable, the big day may seem like a dream and a long time away, but it will be here before you know it!

Barns and Brides- A Winning Combination
Barns are a wonderful choice for a venue, bursting with personality, each one has unique touches and features, and with high ceilings they offer a fantastic space to build your theme and create a wedding that fully reflects your personalities and wedding vision.
Barns really do look amazing when they are decorated for weddings; with a combination of charm and character whilst also being a blank canvas on which you can be creative and add your unique touch. One of the special parts of a Barn wedding is the atmosphere that builds with having everyone under one roof.
It is also an important factor that Barns do not operate as hotels. The wedding team in charge is entirely focussed on making sure your wedding runs perfectly. You and your guests will not be sharing the venue with their other customers.

Lillibrooke Manor in Maidenhead is an amazing Barn wedding venue and one of my personal favourites. With high ceilings and traditional beams, natural walls and floors with a neutral colour scheme, it has all those special features you want in a wedding barn. There are plenty of outside spaces, wonderful countryside and farmhouse back drop with beautiful gardens, courtyard, as well as a large indoor space with amazing light for rainy days. There are a variety of fantastic options to shoot in any weather conditions. This is what makes
Barn Wedding In Berkshire
The best wedding photographers should have both the technical training and practical knowledge to be able to take stunning photos and get a great result in any location and weather conditions. However, photographers are artists and will create better images when working in inspiring environments, offering better light and backdrops with exquisite indoor and outdoor spaces that mould the artwork. The more amazing the venue the more amazing the pictures!
It’s your day, so make it truly memorable.

Pulling back the heavy curtain I saw what I had been dreading. Droplets of rain peeled their way down the window pane. It was October and the morning of my wedding.
We’d booked our beautiful Berkshire barn wedding in October so we’d planned for rain but we held out hope that the sun would shine for us. The damp weather certainly didn’t dampen my spirits, there was so much still to do!
Hair was pinned, make up was applied, prosecco sipped and jewellery carefully selected. I was so excited but I’d heard a few comments about “it being such a shame about the weather”.
Then our wonderful Registrar Hilary appeared like a fairy godmother and changed my whole view.
“Did you know that rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that your marriage will last. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – therefore, when you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is supposedly just as hard to unravel!”
Rain may be the last thing you hope for on your wedding day, but it should be something to plan for, and it really can be an amazing addition to your big day!
The key, as in all things wedding, is to plan ahead. Check out our useful hints and tips to help your day go ‘swimmingly’!
Venue – Any couple having an outdoor wedding ceremony should consider having a back-up plan! Have you walked around with rain in mind? Does your venue have a good wet weather plan? What are the walking routes like? Do they provide umbrellas for you and your guests? Can you get from your dressing area to the ceremony without getting drenched or blown away? Are there places for indoor pictures?
An exclusive hire wedding venue, Lillibrooke Manor offered us a variety of beautiful buildings for our ceremony and reception. From the country church feel of the Small Barn through to the awe-inspiring Great Barn, Lillibrooke offered us a stunning setting and guarantees you beautiful photographs. indoors or outdoors, whatever the weather. Our wedding venue did not disappoint.
Photographer – Have a chat in advance about how they would approach a wet day, chances are they’ll have a host of images they can show you from previous wet weddings. Do they have some shots in mind to make the most of the rain? Most photographers will agree that they prefer clouds and a dull day than bright, eye-squinting sunshine to deal with!
Shoes – Heel protectors are the hidden heroes of a wet day, or wellington boots…possibly the LAST thing you thought you’d wear but some can look fabulous.
Wedding Dress – Do you know how to hitch it up? Keeping your dress off the floor when walking between spaces can help you (and your dry cleaner!) later on in the evening.
Don’t forget that rain does have its good sides too. Reflections everywhere, lights glistening on wet surfaces. Raindrops pin-pricking your photos like tiny fireflies. Cute umbrella shots of you both huddled together. Keeping everyone in one place, your guests won’t be as tempted to wander away if it’s wet outside, and you won’t have to send out the ushers looking for stragglers while you’re preparing for your first dance!
It rained a lot on our wedding day and we loved it. We have some beautiful photographs, hilarious memories, it was our unique wet wedding day and it was far from a washout!
Check out some of our favourite rainy wedding photos—they’re sure to convince you everything will be okay!
Thank you to our bride Lauren who wrote about her rainy October 2019 wedding day.
The Heritage Venues team at Lillibrooke Manor would be delighted to hear from any couples who would like to share their story and photos with us. Share your top tips and memories with couples looking for their dream venue, advice and wedding inspiration.

Heni from Heni Fourie Photography is on the blog today to share his thoughts on winter weddings. “I have been lucky enough to photograph weddings at Lillibrooke Manor in all four seasons, with each bringing a unique quality to creating a beautiful wedding backdrop. Summer is often the obvious choice for most couples, but I have captured so many beautiful weddings at the height of winter”. Here are three reasons why I just adore those wintery barn weddings.
The Beautiful Light
Contrary to what many may believe, winter light can create the most beautiful photographs. Have you ever heard of the magic hour? In the summer it is that hour just before sunset when the sun is hanging low, creating beautiful buttery light that is extremely flattering. Well in the winter that hour lasts much longer and creates for beautiful photo opportunities. The only thing to consider is the shorter winter days, but plan your ceremony early and allow at least an hour for photographs sometime before three in the afternoon, and you will be fine.
You have just as much creative licence with a winter wedding, if not more. Your wedding can be formal and elegant with lanterns and candles, or rustic and informal with log fires burning into the night. You can create a cosy atmosphere with lighting and soft furnishings, or light up the barn with a sky of fairy lights. The space at Lillibrooke Manor is ideal for creating magical indoor experiences with no less than three barns to your disposal.
There is so much choice when it comes to flowers for capturing the beautiful winter tones reflected in nature. You can use anything from berries to feathers, thistle and pinecones. I have seen some truly remarkable bouquets and centrepieces at the many winter weddings I’ve photographed.
Knowing What To Expect
When planning a winter wedding you prepare for the worst weather as opposed to hoping for sunshine on a summer’s day and then getting rained on from start to finish. What I am saying is that when you know it is going to be cold and wet, then you will not only be prepared but pleasantly surprised when you wake up to clear blue skies and the soft winter’s sun on your wedding day – rather than feeling disappointed when it rains all over your festival style summer wedding.
There are endless ideas when it comes to creating winter wedding experiences. Everything from wedding dresses to sought after wedding barns, flower arrangements and wedding cakes can be designed to create a magical wedding moment that will leave your guests talking about it for years to come.

What Makes Lillibrooke Manor an Award-Winning Venue? Let’s go behind the scenes and find out!
Just this year Lillibrooke Manor won the ‘Thames Valley Wedding Venue of the Year’ award, which is why we thought we’d tell you about what goes on behind the scenes of an award-winning wedding and events venue.
The large Heritage Venues team based at Lillibrooke Manor works as one to delight their clients, never losing the personal touch however many events there are.
Facilities & Venue Management – Rory deals with everything that a listed 15th century venue and 15 acres of grounds can throw at him. All those things that are taken for granted behind the scenes keep everyone comfortable and safe in a beautifully maintained environment, all managed personally by him.
Sales & Events Team – Jonny, Ellie and Laura start by sending detailed information immediately to any enquiry, then arranging a one-to-one viewing. During the venue tour they get to know their customer, tailor the tour to their needs, show them every area of our stunning venue, and answer every question – including some they may not have thought of yet! The customers are then given continued guidance, tailored quotes to fit their budget, and ongoing support.
Operations & Events Team – Alys, Fiona and Kate step in closer to the event to work on logistics and detailed planning of the itinerary, including all the special requirements, menus, table plans, regular liaison with the Chefs, full briefing to the event team, and providing invaluable guidance and support to the customer throughout. Their organised and experienced approach helps calm even the most nervous brides, and the most time-poor corporate organisers!
Kitchen Team – Head Chef Krimo, who trained under Marco Pierre White amongst others, leads an experienced and highly creative team of Chefs. Bartosz, Noreddine, Kasia and Deyan all share his passion to deliver superb food, beautifully presented, using the best ingredients. Working from the purpose-built banqueting kitchens opened at Lillibrooke in the summer of 2018, they all acknowledge that they simply couldn’t do what they do without the amazing support of their tireless KPs, Jon and Aldona.
The event itself sees an army of trusted and highly trained event staff to set up the venue, laying everything out as planned with an unsurpassed attention to detail. The dedicated Event Managers Vincent, Sam, Annabel and Louise are long-standing, highly qualified and experienced in their craft, calmly overseeing their teams and providing hugely appreciated personal service to the customer throughout their event.
Feedback and glowing reviews are what the team live for, to know all their combined hard work led to the customer and all their guests having the most wonderful time. Emails are displayed in the offices as a reminder during demanding days of how worthwhile it all is!
The success of Lilllibrooke Manor & Barns has led to the very recent appointment of the Heritage Venues team to manage another local venue – the stunning Stanlake Park Wine Estate in Twyford. With a beautiful Coach House, Walled Garden and Barn in the stunning setting of their vineyards, the estate caters for the growing trend for quality British wines.
If you would like this award-winning team to look after your event, please get in touch with Jonny or Ellie.

What Wedding Dress Suits Me?
The Lillibrooke Manor office team LOVE weddings, and we especially love to guess what our brides will wear. We are involved in every detail running up to the big day but what we don’t know is what the bride will be wearing! A princess dress perhaps? Could it be lacy this time? Only time can tell!
As 3 of our team are hoping to be engaged soon, we love getting inspiration from all of our brides – you should see us all taking (very) sneaky peaks of the dress as the brides walk past the office for the first time! We all swoon over our bride’s chosen dress every. single. time. And that’s why we’ve come up with (and had a great time with) this super fun and easy way to choose the perfect style of your wedding dress!
Let us know if it works for you!
A-line Wedding Dresses
Perhaps the most popular all, this dress is perfect for that sophisticated, perfect look that many brides dream of. It’s simplistic cut can suit any bride, and for those who want to have a more intricate a-line dress, our bride Jess shows us just how to do that!

Sheath Wedding Dresses
The sheath dress is also a popular choice for many. Its elegance and simplicity strikes a beautiful angelic look for the bride. It is a relatively easy dress to wear, which is why those who want everything at their wedding to be perfect and relaxed would be suited to this style of dress.
Ball Gown Wedding Dresses
This captivating style is perfect for brides who dream of a fairytale wedding. It certainly will keep everyone’s eyes on the bride as many will marvel at the beauty of it. Our bride Emtinan shows us exactly how a big dress should be worn, and she does it effortlessly too!
Princess Wedding Dresses
The princess wedding dress looks stunning, its large skirt and delicate top is an idyllic dress for any wedding theme. Much like the ball gown wedding dress, this is certainly one that will draw the much-deserved attention, our bride Lisa shows us just how beautiful it can be!
Empire Wedding Dresses
The empire wedding dress is perfect for an easy-going relaxed, happy wedding day. Even though it isn’t as bold and intricate as other dress styles, our brides love this look for its simplicity and ethereal feel. This romantic style is also suited to all body types, making it an obvious choice for many.
