It’s not every day that you can say the Prime Minister came to tea! Well last Friday she did, to Lillibrooke Manor’s first Macmillan coffee morning.  We opened our doors to the public for the very first time, and what a success it was, making £1,489.01 for Macmillan and meeting lots of lovely new people! There were goodies galore at the stalls that lined the Great Barn, selling all manor of things from jewellery to clothing to wonderful pictures and mini pampering sessions. We had a photo booth, face painting, cake decorating, storytelling, fair rides and singing performers. And of course, no open day is complete without a raffle – every one of our stall holders donated something, along with various bottles and a lovely advent calendar elf from the Scandi Shack. The Lillibrooke team pulled out all the stops with their amazing baking creations for our very own bake off competition!  All the old favourites were there along with a few new treats – Chocolate orange cake, white chocolate cheesecake with raspberries, orio cookie cupcakes, lemon drizzle cake, muffins and tray bakes.

Macmillan is a charity close to most people’s hearts and as such, lots (& lots & lots!) of people turned out to support it at Lillibrooke.  The queue for coffee and cake went right the way back through the barn and they kept coming – it was wonderful! With an event like this, you can never tell how many people will come and that makes planning a bit difficult, so we all just made as many cakes as we could and got plenty of tea and coffee in and it’s lucky that we did because we almost completely sold out – and the Prime Minister enjoyed a cuppa along with everyone else! So, thank you to everyone – staff, volunteers, stall holders, raffle donators and guests alike – for helping us to support Macmillan, and thank you to the Prime Minister, Theresa May, for giving up some of her very precious free time to come to our coffee morning and helping to add the extra bit of sparkle and excitement that it needed to put (excuse the pun…) the cherry on the cake!!
